The McMan Parent Link Centre is a resource for parents and caregivers to help strengthen parenting skills and ensure positive child development. We provide families with support to ensure that they have the information and services needed to help their children develop to their full potential and enter school ready to learn.
We focus on programs for parents with children from ages 0-6 but are open to all families. All programs are free! Services we offer include:

In Home Family Support 403-527-1588
McMan's Family Support Program provides interventions and services aimed at strengthening and preserving youth, children and their families by providing home-based, family centered services designed to: Promote the protection and well being of children in their homes, help/educate parents to improve their parenting abilities, prevent, reduce or eliminate behaviors which may place a child or family at risk, prevent unnecessary long term out-of-home placement of a child, promote reunification of a family, enhance family support networks, improve family fuctioning and respond immediately (through use of a pager) to the family at the point of crisis.
Youth Transitions to Adulthood 403-527-1588
YTA provides housing and support services to youth between the ages of 15 and 22 who are involved with Children's Services and require assistance to develop the skills and responsibilities necessary to live independently. The youth may share accomodations with a skilled adult mentor or may live in their own apartment in the community.
Foster and Adoptive Parent Recruitment and Training

all foster homes (permanent and relief) in the
region. In addition, we also recruit and train

Skill Building Youth

Through a therapeutic relationship with each child, McMan Youth
Workers provide an individualized, skill-building program aimed at
helping children function effectively at home, school and in the
community. Supports are given for academic performance, social skills,
communication and conflict resolution.
Inn Between Youth Shelter – Team
Leader: 403-529-6367
The Inn Between provides care and support for homeless youth and
those under the care of Children’s Services. It is funded by
SEAFCSA and Medicine Hat Community Housing Society and serves 6 youth,
ages 12 – 17. Youth are assisted with Individual Action Plans
that include school, employment, life skills, housing and referrals
to community agencies.
Inn Between Youth Shelter Outreach

The Shelter Outreach Worker provides "Common Ground" Parent/Teen Mediation, one
to one support and success coaching for youth and families in order to prevent
youth homelessness. When a community
youth does access the shelter, McMan staff work collaborative with all
stakeholders to help transition the youth back home or to a stable living
arrangement and provides follow-up support to ensure the placement is
maintained.

As part of the Mental
Health Capacity
Building initiative, McMan Success Coaches
work with youth that need support and guidance in many aspects of their lives.
In partnership with Medicine Hat
School District #76 and Prairie Rose
School Division, staff provide coaching and resources to assist youth in
developing the tools they need to build a happy, successful life and reach their
full potential.
McMan FASD Youth Mentor 403- 527-1588
Funded by funded by South East Alberta Fetal Alcohol Network, the FASD Youth Mentor helps children
and youth between the ages of 10 and 17 who are diagnosed or suspected of having
FASD. Through a trusting relationship, the mentor helps the youth develop the
skills they need in order to be successful at home, school, work and in the
community. The mentor will provide strategies and provide positive role modeling
to help the youth build effective social and life skills, as well as structured
and consistent routines. Support is also provided to the families and caregivers
to assist with the skills and knowledge necessary to raising their child.
Winter's Inn Temporary Adult

The Winter's Inn is a temporary winter
emergency response for homeless adults who are unable to access existing shelter
services. Guests are provided with a safe, warm place to sleep, nourishment and
the opportunity to be connected with appropriate community supports. Winter's Inn
operates from December to April.
Housing First Program 403-527-1588
As part of the Alberta Government's 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness,
McMan leads an integrated team of service providers to deliver Housing First in
Medicine Hatted team of service providers to deliver Housing First in
Medicine Hat.
Housing First is an alternative
to the current system of emergency shelter/transitional housing and is premised
on the belief that vulnerable and at-risk homeless families are more responsive
to interventions and social services support after they are in their own
housing, rather than while living in temporary or transitional facilities or
housing programs. With permanent housing combined with
intensive case management and wrap around supports, these individuals and
families can begin to regain the self-confidence and control over their lives
they lost when they became homeless.
Adolescent Crisis Beds 403-527-1588
In partnership with Palliser Health Authority – Community
Mental Health, McMan provides two crisis/stabilization beds in the
community which are available if maintaining a youth in their family home
is not possible. A clinical assessment completed within 48 hours and a treatment plan is then developed and implemented. Maximum stay is 10 days.
"Common Ground" Parent/Teen Mediation Program

McMan "Common Ground" Parent/Teen Mediation is a short-term,
preventative, community-based service designed to assist families
in finding agreeable resolutions when conflict occurs between parents
and their teens.

McMan Parent/Teen Mediators will provide parents and teens with:
- a neutral voice
to each of their perspectives
- effective communication
strategies
This service is available to any family in Medicine Hat
and area. There is no charge, but donations to support "Common
Ground" are always gratefully accepted!
Family Group Conferencing 403-527-1588
Rooted in Aboriginal culture, Family Group Conferencing is an effective
process in empowering families to take control of their future. A
Family Group Conference is a special meeting of parents, children,
extended family and those that feel like family. Designed to
prevent children from being taken into foster care, the family is
assisted in creating a plan that will keep children with their
extended families, to protect a child from harm and consider the
child's physical, emotional mental and spiritual needs. The
plan is implemented with the endorsement and support of Children's
Services and the courts.
Contracted by Child and Family Services, a trained McMan Facilitator
is responsible for working with the family to plan, implement
and follow-up the Family Group Conference. ces and the courts.
