 Baby Matters

Baby Matters is a post-natal support group for families with infants 0-12 months of age. They meet weekly to discuss parenting issues, family dynamics and self-care.

Baby Matters accepts families who are struggling with low income, health conditions, drug or alcohol use, social isolation and unhealthy relationships. The program is voluntary and offered at no cost.

The group meets every week for 2 hours at the McMan office. A facilitator arranges for presentations, activities, snacks and transportation if needed and child care. Participants have the opportunity to learn from the facilitator, presenters and each other. Group topics may include: early child development, early literacy, nutrition information for the whole family, infant feeding information and self-care. The DTHR nutritionist is accessed to teach infant feeding and an instructor from the Canadian Red Cross teaches First Aid. Many other presenters co-facilitate the group including Mental Health Workers, Career Planning Instructors and Public Health Nurses.

Families may withdraw from the program at any time. The program is voluntary and offered at no cost until the child is one year of age.
